Artifacts #
What this step produces.
Selected Ideas #
The short list of ideas chosen to move forward, with the reasons for choosing them. It is the starting point for detailed planning.
EMV Decision Tree #
A tree of choices and uncertain outcomes with probabilities and payoffs, showing the expected value of each path. It helps compare ideas by their likely return.
Impact Map #
A diagram linking the goal to the actors who can influence it, the changes in their behaviour and the deliverables that cause them. It keeps ideas tied to the intended impact.
Initial Product Backlog Items #
The first entries of the product backlog, written from the chosen ideas. They turn an idea into work that can be sized and ordered.
Techniques #
Techniques used in this step.
RICE (Reach Impact Confidence Effort) #
A scoring method that rates each idea by how many people it reaches, its impact, your confidence and the effort needed. The resulting score ranks ideas for selection.
WSJF (Weighted Shortest Job First) #
A prioritisation method that divides the cost of delay by job size, so valuable, quick items go first. It is used to order the ideas for delivery.
EMV (Expected Monetary Value) #
The probability-weighted average of possible financial outcomes. It lets you compare uncertain options with one number and is used to judge the value of each choice.
